The unsettling and shocking events that have occurred recently in Bend, as well as nationally, have provided an opportunity for Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC) to reflect and chart a path forward—alongside community partners—to identify and implement new policies and practices that advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. While we acknowledge that this is a process of ongoing learning, we aspire to adopt equitable and transparent DEI policies and practices that are guided by our organizational mission and rooted in our values.
COIC, a regional Council of Governments that operates Cascades East Transit (CET), recently conducted a DEI assessment with its staff members to identify current awareness of and engagement with DEI principles and practices. COIC is currently working with a consultant to develop and implement DEI practices and policies that will foster greater support, compassion, and services to others across our region, as well as provide a better understanding of the awareness, sensitivity, and celebration of our differences. COIC is also committed to working collaboratively with its contractors to strengthen policies and procedures with a shared understanding of COIC’s commitment to DEI principles. As a community, we can and must work together to create an environment where we are all welcome, understood and celebrated.
