Hawthorne Station Safety Improvement Project
Cascades East Transit and COIC staff worked collaboratively with the Hawthorne Neighbors and adjacent business and property owners to redesign the parking lot and bus bays at Hawthorne Station, CET’s central transit hub located at 334 NE Hawthorne Ave in Bend.
The project will take buses into new loading areas in front of and behind Hawthorne Station to improve traffic flow. It will also add new bus shelters, pedestrian improvements, and information to make taking the bus easier. Parking will be enhanced with improved ADA access and electric vehicle charging stations.
Funding for the Hawthorne Station Safety Improvement Project is secured and comes primarily from ODOT grants and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF).
The Hawthorne Station Safety Improvement Project will reduce potential conflicts between vehicles, buses, and people who walk, roll, and bike. The current bus staging area and shelters on the south side of Hawthorne Ave will be removed to increase visibility for drivers and pedestrians, as well as allow better traffic flow traffic in and out of the north entrance of the 3rd Street Mall.
Construction Timeline
April 1 – August 2 North parking lot construction
May 15 – August 2 West parking lot construction
August 5 – September 29 North bus platform construction, alley work
September 30 – November 1 South lot construction
