Redmond Flex Routes

More regular service is coming to Redmond! “Flex routes” offer predictable routes and a regular schedule, but with the flexibility to pick up or drop off passengers almost anywhere within a quarter mile of the route.

Planning for these routes began in 2019 in cooperation with the City of Redmond when the service was described in our Transit Master Plan. In 2021, CET completed a feasibility study looking at potential routes and the places and people they would serve. Pandemic impacts then delayed implementation. Now, after a fresh look at Redmond and all the growth that has taken place, CET expects to launch the first flex routes in the summer of 2024!

What are flex routes?

Flex routes – or “deviated fixed route service” in transit jargon – allow the predictable schedule of a regular fixed route bus, but the flexibility of on-demand rides providing transit at neighborhood scale.

For example, you can hop on at a regular bus stop downtown and get off in front of your apartment a block away from the regular route.

Using the flex option requires calling ahead to our Dial-A-Ride call center here in Redmond.

Where do they go?

CET plans to start with two routes in Redmond:

Route A: Reaching the airport and all the businesses in southeast Redmond and south Highway 97

Route B: Serving northwest Redmond, from the high school to Walmart and the hospital and all the neighborhoods around 19th Street.

The final map is still being determined and the flex area will be 1/4 mile around the route.

Don’t worry, if you use Dial-A-Ride in Redmond, it’s not going anywhere!
