Route 4 serving North 3rd Street will begin a major detour on April 22 and last into July. Four bus stops will close as a part of this detour, however, the fewer stops allows this route to increase its frequency from every 45 minutes to now run every 30 minutes.
The detour is necessary as part of the ODOT North Corridor Project that is reconfiguring Highway 97 on the north end of Bend. The Route 4 bus typically approaches the Cascade Village Shopping Center by cutting over from 3rd Street onto Highway 97 via Empire Avenue. The on-ramp at Empire is currently experiencing intermittent delays of up to 30 minutes, which can cause the bus to miss entire runs.
The stops being closed are:
- 3rd Street @ Butler Market Road (E)
- 3rd Street @ Bend River Promenade (E)
- 3rd Street @ Sugar Loaf (E)
- 3rd Street @ Nels Anderson Road (E)
Each closed bus stop is on the east side of 3rd Street. Each continues to be served by a nearby bus stop across the street on the west side of 3rd Street.
